Bilingual Assessment and Intervention: Foundations

Description: According to the National Center for Education Statistics,
as many as one in ten children in public schools are identified as English
Language Learners (ELLs). This seminar will provide therapists with
applicable, evidence-based strategies for effective assessment and intervention
of ELL students, while integrating principles of cultural humility.

Literacy Considerations for Children with Speech Sound Disorders

Description: THIS EVENT WILL BE HELD VIA ZOOM. SEE DETAILS BELOW.
Children with speech sound disorders are at significant risk for later
literacy deficits that can have long-term impacts on their academic
success. In this presentation, we will discuss the role of the
speech-language pathologist in supporting literacy development for all
children, including those with speech sound disorders. We will discuss
the stages of literacy development from preschool through school-age
children. We will further discuss how speech production errors may
impact literacy acquisitions across different stages of reading
development. Lastly, we will discuss ideas for successfully integrating
literacy into speech therapy sessions and classroom-based lessons for
children with speech sound disorders.
