Day 1: Mary Walsh, Program Specialist from the Bureau of Exceptional
Education and Student Services, FDOE will provide an update on current
topics of interest relevant to related services. Attendees will also
have opportunities to conduct Consultancy Protocols with one another to
obtain ideas and suggestions for issues of practices currently of
Day 2: Addressing Swallowing and Feeding in the School Setting Utilizing an Interdisciplinary Team Approach. Attendees will receive information necessary to establish a comprehensive procedure for working with students with swallowing and feeding disorders in their districts. The session will include why districts are required to address swallowing and feeding according to legal mandates, IDEA, and USDA regulations and ethical considerations of professional staff. The step-by-step Students Eat Safely: Follow the Forms procedure and accompanying forms will be presented and shared with attendees. Working with medical teams and parents/caregivers, modifying school cafeteria meals and maintaining safe feeding will also be presented. Finally, information on administrating the team effort once it is established and obtaining and maintaining staff competence (including SLPs, OTs, and nurses) will be presented.
10 & 10 SESSION
We are asking all attendees to participate in group sharing.
Share a successful strategy you have developed in a 10 & 10 session. This will consist of you presenting to approximately 8 of your peers for approximately 10 minutes, telling them about the use of a tool, resource or strategy to support delivery of related services and/or therapy in your district. Following your presentation, the group will ask you questions about the tool, resource or strategy for 10 minutes. Room for the night of April 24 will be paid for one SLP coordinator and one OT/PT coordinator per district (one room per district if these positions are combined, for districts 50+ miles from Tampa). The night of April 23 will be paid for advisory committee members.
