as many as one in ten children in public schools are identified as English
Language Learners (ELLs). This seminar will provide therapists with
applicable, evidence-based strategies for effective assessment and intervention
of ELL students' SPEECH, while integrating principles of cultural humility.

Literacy Considerations for Children with Speech Sound Disorders: Assessment

Children with speech sound disorders (SSDs) are at significant risk for later literacy deficits that can have long-term impacts on their academic success. In this presentation, we will discuss the role of the speech-language pathologist in supporting literacy development for all children, including those with speech sound disorders. We will discuss the stages of literacy development from preschool through school-age children, and the relationship between literacy and speech sound production development. Finally, we will discuss practical strategies for comprehensive assessment of literacy skills in children with SSD.
